Mylan launches generic Fortamet

HERTFORDSHIRE, England and PITTSBURGH — Mylan on Thursday announced the U.S. launch of its generic Fortamet (metformin hydrochloride) extended-release tablets. The drug is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients with Type 2 diabetes. 

 

Mylan’s generic will be available in 500- and 1000-mg dosage strengths. The drug had U.S. sales of about $770.3 million for the 12 months ended July 2016.
