NACDS Foundation supports DEA Musem exhibit on drug diversion

ALEXANDRIA, Va. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation Thursday participated in the unveiling of a new exhibit, “Good Medicine, Bad Behavior: Drug Diversion in America,” at the Drug Enforcement Administration Museum in Arlington, Va.

Drug diversion, NACDS said, is the use of legitimate pharmaceuticals for illegitimate applications. Community pharmacies have worked in partnership with the DEA in the past towards the goal of preventing and ending this behavior. The NACDS foundation provided a three-year, $20,000 grant toward the development of the DEA exhibit.

“Our industry is committed to preventing the abuse of pharmaceuticals, from cough syrup to pain killers,” said NACDS Foundation president Phillip Schneider. “We are proud to support the DEA Museum and its efforts to educate citizens about the dangers of drug abuse.”

“Good Medicine, Bad Behavior: Drug Diversion in America” explores the history of prescription drug abuse and efforts to combat diversion in the United States. It also demonstrates how drugs can have positive outcomes when taken properly, but can be harmful when misused. The exhibit will open to the public on Nov. 13.
