NCPA Foundation, AmerisourceBergen Foundation to support pharmacies during disasters

5/17/2019
The National Community Pharmacists Association Foundation is partnering with the AmerisourceBergen Foundation, a nonprofit charitable giving organization focused on supporting health-related causes that enrich the global community, to ensure community pharmacies affected by such disasters as Hurricane Michael can continue to support patient populations.

The AmerisourceBergen Foundation has donated to the NCPA Foundation to create the AmerisourceBergen Foundation–NCPA Foundation Disaster Relief Grant Fund. This will be administered entirely by the NCPA Foundation, including decisions related to eligibility and grant selections.

The NCPA Foundation Disaster Relief Grant Fund was established to provide financial assistance to community pharmacy owners for the repair of pharmacies in the event of disaster, accidents, illness or other adverse circumstances.

As the rapid intensification of hurricanes continues to produce stronger and more destructive storms, it is almost certain that there will be a need to support community pharmacies experiencing a disaster. While recent hurricanes have caused major damage, a community pharmacy experiencing hardship due to flooding, fire and smoke damage, winter storm damage, or other damage will be eligible for these grants.

Assistance is available to NCPA member- and nonmember-independent pharmacies, awarding up to $2,500 per site for the AmerisourceBergen Foundation Fund and an additional $2,000 per site through the NCPA Foundation Disaster Relief Fund.
