New pharmacy delivery app hits Manhattan

8/5/2015

NEW YORK — A new app is looking to give Manhattanites a reprieve from standing in line at the pharmacy. Zipdrug, which launched in July, allows users to have their prescriptions delivered on-demand within an hour.

Zipdrug’s bicycle messengers will pick up medications — except for controlled substances — from the user’s preferred pharmacy, or one that the app recommends, so long as the prescriber submits an electronic script. The messengers complete HIPAA awareness training and must pass background checks and an exam before they’re allowed to deliver medication.

The service is available at any location in Manhattan, with projected expansion to other cities, for $10. Zipdrug delivers between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend.
