NNCN compendium recognized by CMS

6/10/2008

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has recognized the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s Drugs & Biologics Compendium, NCCN has announced.

CMS has mandated the NCCN Compendium as a reference for establishment of coverage policy and decisions concerning the use of drugs and biologics in cancer care.

CMS will use the compendium for national coverage determinations, while intermediaries and carriers will use it for local and regional determinations. It will mostly be used for determinations of coverage for the use of drugs and biologics to treat cancer beyond indications approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

The NCCN is an alliance of 21 of the world’s leading cancer centers, including the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University.
