Organon named by widower in lawsuit over NuvaRing

3/21/2008

TOMS RIVER, N.J. A man is suing the manufacturers of the drug NuvaRing, the contraceptive he believes led to his wife’s death in December, according to published reports.

The lawsuit filed by Robert Bozicev’s attorneys in state Superior Court in Essex County names Organon USA, the manufacturer and distributor of NuvaRing, and Schering Plough, which purchased Organon in 2007.

Bozicev’s wife Jackie Kelly died of an obstruction to the arteries in the lungs caused by a blood clot in the pelvic veins. The lawsuit alleges that progestin in NuvaRing users may lead to an increased rise of blood clots, strokes and heart attacks.
