The United States faces no foreign threat — not from North Korea, Russia, China or Iran — greater perhaps than the current state of disarray of its political systems, retired Gen. Colin Powell told attendees of the Business Program at NACDS TSE. Gen. Powell shared thoughts and experiences from his 50-year career in public service, including military and diplomatic posts spanning four presidential administrations and the founding and leadership of the youth-focused America’s Promise Alliance.

“The democratic system simply isn’t working,” Powell said, addressing the ideological polarization of the Democratic and Republican parties. “[Today], we have a Congress who cannot compromise and help solve the problems we have. I’m not sure how the President is going to navigate these waters. One of the things that will help us through these difficult times [is] if we just stop insulting each other.”
