Pharmacy Quality Solutions, maker of the EQuIPP quality measurement and performance information platform, recently hit a big milestone in its efforts to help pharmacies improve the quality of their patients’ medication use. EQuIPP is now hosting more than 3-in-4 Medicare lives. The company touted this as enabling pharmacies to leverage performance benchmarks to deliver better, high-touch care.

“We are privileged to have such strong industry partners, and we appreciate the industry’s recognition of how collaborating and leveraging community pharmacies can lead to improving the quality of medication use,” said Jeff Newell, PQS’ CEO. “We are also excited that our payer partners have acknowledged the unique value community pharmacies provide through higher performance on quality measures and costs avoided due to improved medication use.”

The latest Impact Assessment from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services pegged the value of improved medication adherence at a savings of between $4.2 billion and $26.9 billion in avoidable costs for the years 2011-2015.

“Over the past few years through the increased adoption of EQuIPP, there has been an increased focus on quality and performance information, and we are excited that pharmacies are now able to help strategically position themselves towards one of value and quality,” PQS vice president of client relations and services, Todd Sega said.

PQS said it had plans to expands the performance measures hosted in EQuIPP with the aim of helping to serve Medicare beneficiaries, as well as the Medicaid and commercial patient populations. These categories will include A1c control for diabetic patients and expanded measure sets aimed at adherence for such categories as asthma inhalers, anti-depressants and antipsychotics.
