Price Chopper extends flu shot program

9/10/2009

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. A supermarket-pharmacy chain will extend its flu shot program to all of its in-store pharmacies.

Price Chopper Supermarkets’ certified immunizers will be administering flu shots at more than 300 clinics throughout the chain, covering six states. The chain was the first in New York state to have one of its immunization-certified pharmacists deliver a flu shot.

Shots, available by appointment or walk-ins, cost $30 and come with a coupon book offering $30 in savings on merchandise.

“Pharmacists as immunizers provide many advantages to the health and wellness of patients,” Price Chopper VP pharmacy Vincent Mainella said in a statement. “Through daily interaction, our pharmacists can easily identify those at risk for the flu based on their medication use and/or knowledge of the patient’s health issues.”

The chain opened the first clinics Wednesday and Thursday in Cicero and Latham, N.Y., and Worcester, Mass.
