Report suggests major growth in vaccine market for children and teens

NEW YORK A new report by Datamonitor suggests that the market for pediatric and adolescent vaccines could quadruple over the next 10 years, according to published reports.

Among the new vaccines that are suggesting this new rise are Prevnar, from Wyeth, which is used for the prevention of pneumococcal disease in infants, and Merck’s Gardasil which is the human papilloma virus vaccine for teenage women.

With the success of these medications and its rivals like Cervarix, which is a rival drug to Gardasil, produced by GlaxoSmithKline, the market is expecting to hit over $16 billion by 2016, according to Datamonitor.
