Research suggests statins do not pose cancer risk
NEW YORK Researchers from the Tufts University School of Medicine have found that statins for lowering cholesterol don’t increase cancer risk, according to Bloomberg.
The same researchers had previously found that cancer rates increased along with lower cholesterol rates in patients taking statins, but a new report shows the cancer rates still increase in people with lower cholesterol who don’t take the drugs.
Popular statins include Pfizer’s Lipitor (atorvastatin calcium) and AstraZeneca’s Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium).
