Rexall, ZoomMed team up on Canadian e-prescribing pilot

8/6/2008

MONTREAL A Canadian retail pharmacy chain and an e-prescribing technology developer will soon start offering a pilot e-prescribing program in selected stores, the developer announced Tuesday.

ZoomMed plans to implement its ZRx Prescriber technology in Rexall and Rexall Pharma Plus stores in Toronto, Mississauga and Keswick—all in Ontario—as well as Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta. The two companies hope to improve the communication process between pharmacists and physicians.

“This agreement between ZoomMed and Rexall aims to integrate the ZRx Prescriber solution to the Rexall dispensary application and launch the connection between the growing number of doctors who have chosen ZoomMed’s ZRx Prescriber and selected Rexall pharmacies,” ZoomMed President and chief executive officer Yves Marmet said.

E-prescribing is a technology that allows doctors to send prescription information to pharmacies electronically using a Web connection or handheld computer.
