Rite Aid highlights MMR vaccine availability

As the United States sees an uptick in measles cases reported in areas of the country, Rite Aid is highlighting the availability of measles-mumps-rubella vaccines at its pharmacies upon request. As of April 11, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed 555 cases of measles in the country.

“At Rite Aid, all of our pharmacists are certified immunizers that can vaccinate patients against a number of diseases, including measles, based on CDC's vaccine guidelines and state regulations,” said Rite Aid vice president of clinical services, Summer Kerley. “Our focus is on providing value-based care that improves the health outcomes of patients and the communities where we operate and offering immunizations is a key component of that focus.”

The vaccines can be administered on a walk-in basis during normal pharmacy business hours, Rite Aid said. Per the CDC, children are recommended to receive two doses of the MMR vaccine, first at 12-to-15 months old and later when they are between 4 and 6 years old, though they can receive it earlier as long as the second dose comes at least 28 days after the first. Adults without evidence of immunity should receive at least one dose, though pregnant women should not get the vaccine.
