Roxane recieves FDA approval for generic Colazal

COLUMBUS, Ohio Roxane Laboratories has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for a generic of Salix Pharmaceuticals anti-inflammatory drug Colazal. The drug is used to treat mild to moderate cases of active ulcerative colitis.

The generic, balsalazide disodium capsules, will be available in 750 mg, in bottles of 280 capsules.

The drug had sales of $130.9 million in the U.S. for the year ending Sept. 30, 2007, according to IMS Health. The drug will be launched immediately to wholesalers and pharmacies.
