PARIS and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Sanofi announced Monday that it would be partnering with Google’s life sciences team to explore how they can improve diabetes care and develop new tools to improve outcomes.
Using Sanofi’s diabetes treatments and devices and Google’s chip design, miniaturized electronics and analytics capabilities, the two will work on creating new ways to collect and analyze data like blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c levels. The combination of resources is aimed at providing diabetes patients better tools for self-management and giving healthcare providers more tools to support patients, according to the companies.
“With new technologies emerging to provide a more continuous and real-time view of a patient's health, we can see the promise for more proactive and effective ways to control diabetes,” Google’s life science team CEO Andy Conrad said. “Together with Sanofi, we believe diabetes management can be simpler and more convenient, which may help patients achieve an improved quality of life.”
As part of the partnership, Sanofi’s EVP Pascale Witz will head up the company’s global diabetes and cardiovascular care unit.
“We have built expertise in providing holistic, integrated solutions that combine medicines, devices, technologies and services,” Witz said. “The life sciences team at Google can help us improve the patient experience, outcomes and manage healthcare costs more effectively.”
