Sucampo, Takeda announce availability of IBS-C drug
BETHESDA, Md., and DEERFIELD, Ill. A new drug to relieve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation in women became available in pharmacies nationwide Tuesday.
Sucampo Pharmaceuticals and Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America announced that lubiprostone, marketed as Amitiza, are now available in 8 mcg capsules. It is the only such drug with FDA approval.
The drug was developed by Sucampo and is marketed by Sucampo and Takeda. It is not intended for use by patients younger than 18.
