Surescripts, PDR team up to offer comprehensive prior authorization platform

4/30/2015

ARLINGTON, Va. — Surescripts has announced that it is collaborating with PDR, a provider of drug information, prescriber communications, and behavior-based patient and consumer health information, to expand the coverage of the electronic prior authorization solution CompletEPA.

Between Surescripts’ direct connections with all of the nation’s largest PBMs and PDR’s library of electronic prior authorization forms, CompletEPA will have the capability to process benefit data for nearly 100% of patients in the United States.

As an extension of Surescripts’ electronic prescribing technology, CompletEPA is integrated in existing electronic health record software and operates in real time, without the use of web portals, phone calls or faxes. This added electronic prescribing functionality leverages Surescripts’ extensive network connections to provide a faster and more streamlined electronic prior authorization process.

Manual prior authorization is an administrative burden that delays communication between prescribers and PBMs, causing patients to have to wait many days before prescriptions can be filled.

CompletEPA provides a fully electronic solution integrated into the existing electronic prescribing workflow to allow healthcare providers to complete the prior authorization process accurately and efficiently, in many cases before the patient leaves the office, the companies stated.

In addition to the collaboration with PDR, Surescripts has direct connections with most technology vendors, making CompletEPA available to more than 290,000 physicians nationwide.
