Target announces prescription drug program will match Wal-Mart's

10/1/2007

MINNEAPOLIS Target has announced that it is expanding its discount prescription drug program to match that of rival Wal-Mart.

The company will add 24 drugs to its program, which according to a spokeswoman “will match them (Wal-Mart) on the same items and quantities.” However, consumers in nine states will not benefit as much from the program as customers in other states. Laws in Minnesota, Wisconsin and seven other states prevent pharmacies from selling drugs below their true cost. Nine of the 24 drugs being offered for $4 and $9 are affected by the laws.
