1/29/2009

NORTH WALES, Penn. Teva Pharmaceuticals has introduced a generic version of AstraZeneca's Prilosec delayed-release capsules, the generic drug maker announced last week.

Teva will sell the drug, known generically as omeprazole, in the 10 mg, 30 mg and 40 mg strengths. Omeprazole is used to treat gastro-esophageal reflux disease and heartburn.

"Our customers count on Teva for a continuous supply of new generic products," Teva VP sales and marketing Maureen Cavanaugh said in a statement. "We are excited to add a new strength of omeprazole delayed-release capsules to our broad line of affordable generic pharmaceuticals."

Branded Prilosec had sales of $211 million in the 12 months ending Sept. 30, according to IMS Health. Branded and generic versions of the drug are also available in an over-the-counter version.
