JERUSALEM — Teva has introduced its generic of Zetia (ezetimibe) tablets, the company announced Monday. The drug is indicated to lower total and LDL cholesterol, and Teva’s generic will be available in 10-mg dosage strength.

“Despite advances in the treatment of high cholesterol in recent years, many people are still living with active disease and are in need of additional generic therapeutic options,” Teva president and CEO, global generic medicines Dipankar Bhattacharjee said. “We are excited to add another strong generic to our U.S. portfolio and see potential to build on its success by leveraging our expertise in the cardiovascular area.”

The drug had U.S. sales of approximately $2.7 billion for the 12 months ended in March, according to QuintilesIMS data.
