Teva to stop offering generic Protonix

2/4/2008

NORTH WALES, Pa. Teva has decided not to sell a generic version of the acid reflux drug Protonix, which is manufactured by Wyeth, according to published reports.

The company had announced less than a week ago that it had begun launching the drug, but now has taken it away without an explanation.

"The company has not relaunched and does not intend to ship additional units of generic Protonix at this time," the company said in a statement.

In September 2007, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey dismissed Wyeth’s request for an injunction to block Teva’s launch of a generic version of Protonix, named pantoprazole sodium. Teva decided then to launch the drug, but quickly took it off the market.
