Upsher-Smith launches PreNexa prescription prenatal vitamins

12/4/2008

MINNEAPOLIS Upsher-Smith announced Wednesday that it would begin marketing what it calls the first and only single gel capsule prenatal vitamin with most plant-based docosahexaenoic acid.

The prescription-only vitamins, marketed under the brand name PreNexa, will be available in 265 mg dosages and are intended for women considering pregnancy, already pregnant or breastfeeding.

DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid used throughout the body and helps to support infants? brain and eye development. The DHA in PreNexa comes from algae grown in fermentation tanks, though the DHA in other vitamins comes from fish oil, which can leave women with a fishy aftertaste.
