6/10/2008

DEERFIELD, Ill. Walgreens has struck a deal with pharmacy benefit management giant Express Scripts to purchase its Louisville, Ky.-based home-infusion pharmacy division for an undisclosed price. The pharmacy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Express Scripts operating as CuraScript Infusion Pharmacy, Inc., is one of the nation’s largest providers of infusion services, according to Walgreens.

“This acquisition further expands our national coverage in home infusion services,” said Paul Mastrapa, president of Walgreens-OptionCare. “CuraScript IP is highly regarded in the industry for its clinical expertise and commitment to exceptional patient care.”

CuraScript specializes in treatments for patients who require complex therapies including anti-viral, immune deficiency, inotropic, chemotherapy and pain management.

Both companies expect the transaction to close within 30 days.
