BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart on Thursday announced that it had received specialty pharmacy accreditation from URAC. The distinction means the company has met the accreditor’s standards for demonstrated quality care, improved processes and positive patient outcomes, Walmart said.
“Specialty medications require an experienced team who has a deep understanding of a patient’s holistic needs,” Walmart Specialty Pharmacy GM Jennifer Emsden said. “Our primary goal is to foster best-in-class patient-centered care, starting with a focus in providing the lowest price possible for the medication and ending with the best opportunity for patients to achieve positive outcomes. This accreditation represents our strong commitment to providing patient-centric, affordable care.”
Walmart Specialty Pharmacy provides such services as prior authorization, identifying the lowest possible price for medications and creating a personal care plan for patients than can include advice on which over-the-counter products will best help with side effects, as well as medication adherence support.
“It’s necessary for specialty pharmacies to provide a higher level of treatment for patients so desired outcomes are achieved,” URAC president and CEO Kylanne Green said. “Walmart shows a dedication to patient education and safety through the recognition of quality it received with URAC’s independent accreditation. With URAC accreditation, people know that Walmart is committed to adhering to industry best practices.”
