Wyeth plans to appeal $34.5 million Nevada verdict

10/17/2007

RENO, Nevada In response to the settlement awarded to three Nevada women regarding Wyeth’s hormone replacement drugs Premarin and Prempro, the company has confirmed that it will appeal the verdict which awarded the women $34.5 million, according to Dow Jones.

The company is arguing that substantial irregularities occurred during the jury deliberations. The defense will most likely revolve around the jury’s first decision to award the three women $134 million.

The decision was later changed when the judge discovered that the jury had improperly added punitive damaged to the original verdict. The jury then changed its decision and awarded the women $34.5 million in compensatory damages and $99 million in punitive damages.
