Amazon's two-hour delivery from Whole Foods hits additional markets
Whole Foods Markets is expanding time-saving online delivery options to 10 more markets.
The online giant said it has launched free two-hour delivery from Whole Foods through Prime Now across Albuquerque, N.M.; Birmingham, Ala.; Boise, Idaho; Charleston, S.C.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Hartford, Conn.; Kansas City, Mo.; Providence, R.I.; Salt Lake City; and Stamford, Conn. It will also be expanding into more areas across Boston and Cincinnati.
The program offers Prime members free two-hour delivery, or ultra-fast delivery within one hour for $7.99 on orders of $35 or more. With these additions, the service is now available in 63 cities, and more are markets are planned throughout 2018, according to Amazon.
Additionally, the company extended its curbside grocery pickup in Whole Foods stores in six new cities including Boise, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, San Diego, Tampa and West Palm Beach. The service enables Prime members to pick up their order at a local Whole Foods Market store within an hour — without leaving their car.
Customers can pick up orders worth $35 within an hour. A $4.99 fee applies orders ready within 30 minutes. Including these cities, the service is now available in 14 cities. More markets are planned throughout 2018.
Amazon’s rivals are stepping up their own free delivery services, just in time for the holidays. For example, Target announced on Tuesday that for the first time ever will offer free two-day shipping to all customers, with no minimum purchase and no membership requirement. The service, which will start Nov. 1 and end Dec. 22, will comprise “hundreds of thousands” of eligible items.
Walmart also announced it will make “millions of items” sold on its marketplace eligible for free two-day shipping on orders over $35. The service, which also does not require a membership, will launch mid-November.
