Fred's makes c-suite appointments

Fred’s made several appointments to its C-suite.

The Memphis-based discounter has appointed Joseph Anto as CEO, effective Feb. 3 Anto had been serving in the role on an interim basis since April. He also had been serving as executive VP, CFO and secretary since February 2018.

Anto served as a consultant to the retailer, beginning in July 2017. Prior to joining Fred’s, he served as senior VP of strategy and M&A and in other roles at MediaNews Group, Inc. (d/b/a Digital First Media), one of the largest newspaper companies in the U.S. by circulation. Anto is the co-founder of RumbaTime, a fashion brand focused on timepieces and accessories, and served as the company’s CEO from 2009 to 2012.

In other appointments, Fred’s named Ritwik Chatterjee as CFO. Chatterjee joined Fred’s as VP of finance in June 2018 and was appointed senior VP of corporate development in September 2018. Prior to joining the company, Chatterjee most recently served as senior VP, strategy & business development at Rachel Zoe.

The retailer also named Nathaniel Klein as its COO and Michael Ladd as chief stores officer. Klein joined the chain in April 2018 as senior VP of finance. Ladd joined Fred’s as executive VP of store operations in January 2018.

Fred’s operates approximately 600 discount stores.
