Giant Food’s reach is expanding.

The Landover, M.D.-based retailer announced that it is planning to open two new locations in Herndon and Alexandria, Va.

Both locations are to feature an expanded natural and organic department, larger produce, ethnic food, beer, wine selections, hot food bars, a full-service pharmacy and self-checkout among other innovations. In addition, the stores also will offer customers free WiFi and a full-service PNC Bank.

The Alexandria location will be the only one out of the two to have a Starbucks Café inside, the company said.

"Our team is very happy to have the opportunity to invest in two new stores in Virginia, a market Giant has had a presence in for 77 years," Gordon Reid, president of Giant Food, said. "Both stores in Herndon and Alexandria will feature excellent selections and offerings for shoppers, such as a delicious hot food bar, larger produce department, expanded ethnic and international food selections and full-service deli, seafood, meat and floral departments. These stores are an exciting piece of our ongoing expansion and improvement initiatives."

Giant Food’s new Herndon store will be located at 2425 Centreville Road and open on Nov. 9. The Alexandria location on 6200 Little River Turnpike will open its doors on Nov. 16.
