There’s a new Giant Food Store in town, and the retailer is celebrating.

On Friday, May 17 at 8 A.M., the highly anticipated Walnutport store, located at 300 S. Best Ave., will be opening its doors to consumers.

The Carlisle, Pa.-based company announced that Steve Bowlby, a 27-year grocery veteran, will be store manager of the location and bring his team along with community leaders in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the day of the location’s grand opening.

“There’s nothing more exciting than opening a brand-new Giant, especially here in Walnutport where the support from our neighbors has been fantastic,” Bowlby said. “We have built an amazing team of friendly and enthusiastic associates who reflect the generous spirit of the Walnutport community. Our team is putting the finishing touches on what we hope is a special shopping experience designed with today’s family in mind.”

In addition, the first 200 customers in line will receive a free Giant reusable shopping bag, along with other giveaways, the company said.

Walnutport customers will able to pick-up their groceries in-store or order them online for an easy curbside pickup with Giant Direct, which is powered by Peapod.

Featured in the location is a full-service deli with Boar’s Head meats, Asian hot bar, a variety of rotisserie chickens, grab and go meals, and fresh salads. A full-service bakery with decorators, cakes, artisan breads, and doughnuts are to be featured at the store as well.

“We take great pride in our unique local selections, and we are honored to feature PA Preferred items throughout each of our departments,” continued Bowlby. “For example, in our bakery, customers will find dessert items crafted by local favorite Kiffle Kitchen.”

A Beer & Wine Eatery, stocked with a selection of more than 300 varieties of beer and wine are to be included in the store as well.

The Walnutport store is also assigned a feeding agency partner to receive weekly food donations through the company's food rescue program, including its acclaimed “Meat the Needs” initiative, the company said.
