Meijer brings Shop & Scan to Chicago

3/12/2019
Meijer’s Shop & Scan is rolling out to additional stores.

The mobile shopping checkout program, available through the retailer’s mobile app, allows shoppers to personalize their experience by purchasing items how they want and when they want, the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company said.

Now available in 23 stores throughout Chicago and Northwest Indiana, shoppers can scan bar codes on items via the mobile app and place them in their digital cart. Once they have completed their shopping, customers simply scan their phones at a self-checkout lane and pay.

"We're all challenged by time and busy schedules, so Shop & Scan allows customers the opportunity to truly be in control of their shopping trip, from the moment they walk in our stores to the minute they walk out," Gerald Melville, Meijer regional vice president, said. "Customers are really responding to the simplicity of scanning and bagging as they go. This allows them to save time and avoid lines, speeding up their checkout experience."

Stores included in the launch are Aurora, Bloomingdale, St. Charles, Elgin, McHenry and both Bolingbrook locations throughout the Chicago area. Locations in Northwest Indiana include Merrillville, Valparaiso and Michigan City.

Meijer home delivery and pickup options also are available to consumers throughout the area.
