Meijer announced that it is planning to open a newly designed convenience store and gas station, located adjacent to its Grand Rapids, Mich.-based headquarters.

The new location will be the retailer’s first to include a full-service Starbucks and an expanded assortment of fresh produce, protein-based snacks, wraps, organic items and grab-and-go meals prepared by Superior Foods.

“We are proud to continue to roll out what we see as the future of convenience for our gas station patrons,” Adam Whitney, VP of gas stations and convenience stores for Meijer, said. “We believe our customers will appreciate the ease and accessibility that the new design offers and the expanded assortment of freshly-made options that reflects their desire for healthier snacks.”

Also, to be featured within the space is a large seating area with free Wi-Fi, phone charging stations, an assortment of freshly prepared foods, hot selections, locally-prepared donuts, a self-serve coffee station, F’real Shake selections and a beer cave with popular craft and national brews.

The gas station is to feature 18 fuel pumps, which us a 50% increase over its previous gas station format, the company said. All pumps are to include an expanded pumping capacity, with several offering Diesel and an E85 selection for flex fuel vehicles. Tesla and other electric car charging stations are also to be included in the location.
