Schnucks to host free concert to support Folds of Honor

Schnuck Markets is inviting customers to join in supporting Folds of Honor at a free concert, featuring country music star John Rich.

The concert will take place on June 29 at Des Peres Park at 12325 Manchester Road in Des Peres, Mo., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Proceeds from concession sales will benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation, which recognizes the sacrifices of fallen and disabled military veterans by providing educational scholarships to their spouses and children.

Rich, of the country duo Big & Rich, is an avid Folds of Honor supporter who donates 10% of sales from his Redneck Riviera Whiskey to the organization. He will sign bottles of the whiskey during a meet and greet at Schnucks Des Peres on June 29 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Bottles also will be available for purchase at the park, and Rich will sign some fans’ bottles there.

“We’re excited to partner with John Rich, the City of Des Peres and our vendor partners for this event,” said Schnucks vice president of marketing Ted Schnuck. “This is a way for us to not only raise money for Folds of Honor, but also to say ‘thank you’ to our customers for being so generous in supporting military families through our ‘Round up at the Register’ campaign.”

Budweiser BBQ Collection Brats from Coleman Natural Foods; Prairie Farms novelty ice cream; and Schnucks water, soda and chips will be available for purchase at the concert, with proceeds benefiting Folds of Honor. Active military members and veterans can show their military ID for a complimentary meal.

Customers may donate to Folds of Honor at any Schnucks store through July 4 by rounding up their total purchase to the nearest dollar. This is the second year for the roundup campaign to support the nonprofit. Last year’s effort raised $1.1 million from customers, Schnucks and vendor partners, and provided 220 college scholarships for military family members. Folds of Honor has awarded more than $130 million in scholarships to military spouses and children since 2007.

Schnucks also is joining with Fyffes produce to debut a display of 19,650 pineapples at Schnucks Arsenal on Friday, June 28 at 11 a.m. as it vies to break the record for the world's largest pineapple display. A portion of sales from all pineapples purchased at the store will benefit Folds of Honor.
