Southeastern Grocers debuts reusable bag program

Southeastern Grocers wants to help shoppers make a difference in the communities where they live and work.

To do so, the Jacksonville, Fla.-based retailer launched its Community Bag with a Giving Tag program, a reusable bag program that allows shoppers to direct a $1 donation to the nonprofit of their choice.

The specially designed bags are made from recycled materials and can be found by the registers at all Bi-Lo, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie locations throughout the southeast.

“We are committed to being a company our customers, associates and communities can always count on,” Anthony Hucker, president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, said. “This includes investing in the charitable causes they care about most. The community bag program further demonstrates our commitment to giving back by enabling us to reach thousands of organizations, both small and large, to make a greater difference within the communities in which we serve.”

In addition, each bag comes with an attached giving tag that features a blue heart and instructions on how to make a donation. Shoppers will have seven days to remove the scratch-off layer from their giving tag, which reveals a unique identification and allows the donation to be submitted.
