Walgreens Boots Alliance has a new tech and IT head. The company has named Francesco Tinto global chief information officer and senior vice president, tasking him with overseeing its IT operations and the implementation of technology and digital innovation. His duties also will include data analytics, business intelligences, development, support, infrastructure, security and technical services.
Tinto joins WBA from Kraft Heinz, where he spent 17 years and most recently was global chief information officer and head of global business services. In that role, he oversaw IT and shared services, from finance and customer service to master data, HR and analytics. He previously had been with Procter & Gamble for more than a decade, overseeing key retail, marketing, sales, supply chain and information systems functions.
“I am very glad to be joining Walgreens Boots Alliance at a time when technology and innovation are more important than ever to the company’s success,” said Tinto. “I am looking forward to working with my highly-talented team around the world to ensure WBA is at the forefront in this critical area of the business.”
Tinto’s work with WB will include executing major partner projects, including those with Microsoft and Alphabet’s Verily, as well as maintenance of all systems of record and management of in-house applications, package implementations and vendor products. His team also will be focused on driving profitability through improved business processes, as well as the optimization of IT infrastructure. He will be based in Deerfield, Ill., and report to WBA co-COOs Ornella Barra and Alex Gourlay.
Anthony Roberts, the company’s outgoing global CIO and senior vice president, will retire to focus on non-executive roles outside of the company following assisting with the transition. WBA will retain him to support the company in an advisory capacity. During his time with the company, he oversaw its tech transformation and led the integration office preparing for the merger of Walgreens and Alliance Boots.
“We are deeply thankful to Anthony for building a world-class IT function, which has been integral to our company’s success,” said Barra and Gourlay. “We are also thrilled to welcome Francesco, who brings an exceptional background and experience to this role.”
