Walgreens debuts BTS line with Me to We

As back-to-school shopping kicks into gear, Walgreens is bringing its shoppers a new line to help them give back as they prepare their children for the school year. The company has launched a back-to-school collection with social enterprise Me to We, which aims to make products with a social impact.

The collection includes 18-month planners, backpacks, tote bags, mini highlighters, spiral notebooks and various other supplies, Walgreens said, adding that since May, its customers have provided 11 million impacts — healthcare access, education and water, among others — by purchasing Walgreens Me to We products and accessories.

"At Walgreens, we believe our business should be a catalyst for change to help improve the lives of people around the world,” said Joe Hartsig, Walgreens chief merchandising officer. "Our new ME to WE line of school supplies makes it easy for our customers to find exclusive products they need, while also helping to provide education to communities in need."

On July 29, Walgreens said it launched a new brand cause program that will benefit the Me to We foundation. With participating brands, the retailers will make a donation to fund food, clean water and healthcare impacts to communities in need. The company also will sponsor We Schools —yearlong service-learning programs for educators and students focused on social issues and tools for combating them — for the fourth year by developing a “We Give Health” lesson plan focused on health and wellbeing.

“Me to We empowers people to change the world with their everyday purchases,” said Roxanne Joyal of CEO, Me to We. “Thanks to our partnership with Walgreens, back to school shoppers can load up on stylish supplies while also creating positive change. Each purchase helps fund a child’s education in a developing community — helping to provide the tools to succeed in school and create a brighter future for themselves, their family and their community.”

Walgreens will be airing a nationally broadcast We Day Special on Aug. 17, which it said will celebrate doing good and honoring youth and families who make positive impacts on their communities.
