A new pilot from Walgreens and SmileDirectClub is looking to make access to teeth-straightening solutions more accessible to Walgreens shoppers. The two companies have teamed up to test SmileShops within four Walgreens stores in four markets — Tampa, Fla.; Orlando, Fla.; Cleveland, Ohio; and Tempe, Ariz.
The SmileShops in Walgreens locations feature an on-site SmileGuide who guides consumers through a private, free 3-D scan of their teeth and introduces them to SmileDirectClub’s invisible aligner therapy. After the visit, one of SmileDirectClub’s more than 240 licensed dentists and orthodontists approves and manages the customer’s alignment treatment plan, with aligners shipped to the customer, supported by 24/7 chat, email or phone help.
The partnership with SmileDirectClub isn’t Walgreens’ only foray into making dental care more accessible to patients. In December, the company announced a
partnership with Aspen Dental that brought two of the dental care company’s offices to locations in Florida, aimed at making the stores more of a health destination.
Walgreens also isn’t the only retailer that SmileDirectClub is partnering with. In February, CVS Pharmacy
began offering SmileDirectClub products in roughly 100 stores, as well as piloting SmileShopExpress store-within-store concepts.
