Walmart, Sam’s Club to assist with hurricane relief efforts

9/17/2018
In the wake of Hurricane Florence, Walmart and Sam’s Club have announced their efforts in helping those affected by the storm.

The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer is launching a customer campaign to assist communities impacted, and as part of the Walmart 2018 Relief Fund, the company will match customer donations with 2-to-1 cash donations up to $5 million.

“Our associates and friends have been significantly impacted by this devastating storm,” Dan Bartlett, executive vice president of corporate affairs for Walmart, said. “We’ve seen over the years that our customers all across the country stand ready to help their fellow citizens when mother nature hits. So we’re proud to provide a way to support their generosity during this great time of need.”

Customers can make their donation online or at Walmart and Sam’s Club registers. Each donation will be sent to the Walmart 2018 Hurricane Relief Fund at Foundation for the Carolinas and will support organizations providing such relief efforts as shelter, food, comfort and emergency assistance.

In addition, the company is looking to support associates who have been impacted by the storm with disaster-support assistance, support centers in impacted areas, providing hot meals to families and calling associates to conduct wellness checks.

Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies also will be open as long as conditions are safe for customers and associates, and will deploy a mobile pharmacy to impacted areas to provide prescriptions, immunizations and general resources.
