Shoppers Drug Mart is expanding the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Canadian-based retailer shared that its location in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia has begun vaccinating qualified parties.
Select Shoppers Drug Mart and Atlantic Superstore pharmacy locations will begin to administer the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to those who are age 80 years old and older.
In addition, select locations will begin administering the AstraZeneca vaccine to those aged 63 to 64 years old, the company said.
“Pharmacists are among the most trusted healthcare professionals, providing convenient and accessible community-level health services. We commend the Nova Scotia government for allowing pharmacists to join the immunization campaign in the province,” Jeff Leger, president of Shoppers Drug Mart said. “Across Canada, there are more than 10,000 pharmacies, in rural areas and urban centres. Based on the most recent flu season, it is expected that community pharmacies could vaccinate up to 3 million Canadians each week.”
Vaccines will be available at 15 Loblaw pharmacies in the Nova Scotia region in the coming weeks, the company said.
