Southeastern Grocers announces COVID-19 initiatives at banners

3/19/2020

As retailers continue to look at the scope of what is happening around the coronavirus outbreak, Southeastern Grocers has decided to implement several changes at all of its banners — Bi-Lo, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie.

“As a grocer and people-first company, we are doing everything in our power during this time of uncertainty to lessen the impact it has on our associates, customers, community members and their loved ones,” Anthony Hucker, president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, said.

For starters, all of the Jacksonville, Fla.-based company’s stores will hold special shopping hours for seniors and high-risk customers from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday to Friday.

Pharmacy locations will open at 8 a.m. on weekdays to allow these customers time to fill their prescriptions or seek the counseling of pharmacists who will be on hand.

On weekends, the pharmacy will open at the usual time of operation and is prepared to offer influenza and pneumonia vaccines, the company said.

"When shopping in our stores, please be kind to one another and take a minute to thank our heroic associates for going above and beyond to serve our customers. Now more than ever, it is imperative we work together to ensure all individuals and families have access to a safe shopping environment, as well as fresh, nutritious meals as more people are eating at home,” Hucker said.

The SEG Gives Foundation also will donate $250,000 to Feeding America in order to help its food bank network provide support to those currently facing food insecurity.

In addition, Southeastern Grocers is hiring additional associates throughout the regions it serves to help those who have been affected by restricted working hours.

“We are always looking for talented associates who can provide our customers with quality service. Given the increasing demand for essential items, we have expedited the hiring process to ensure we can provide jobs to those who have been impacted by the current situation," Hucker said. "As a community, we are stronger together!”

Last but certainly not least, all of the company’s banners will close at 9 p.m. daily in order to ensure that associates have time to restock shelves and the appropriate sanitation procedures are met.
