Southeastern Grocers preps for COVID-19 vaccinations across Florida

2/5/2021

Southeastern Grocers is working with the Florida Department of Health, United States Department of Health and Human Services, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on obtaining access to doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

The retailer will receive approximately 8,100 free doses of the vaccine to administer to residents of Florida.

Beginning Feb. 11, Southeastern Grocers will begin administering the vaccine across its Winn-Dixie, Fresco y Más and Harveys Supermarket locations through the federal retail pharmacy program.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to being a store our customers can always count on— not just for their groceries, but as an advocate for their health and wellness as the pandemic continues to overwhelm our communities.” Anthony Hucker, president and CEO for Southeastern Grocers, said. “We are all in this together, and as availability continues to expand, our expert pharmacists stand ready to begin vaccinations throughout the communities we serve to help combat the coronavirus across the Southeast.”

Initially, doses will be offered to health care workers, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, and individuals age 65 years old and older.

“The State of Florida is proud to partner with Winn-Dixie, Fresco y Más and Harveys Supermarkets to provide eligible Floridians across the state access to the vaccine,” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, said. “We look forward to collaborating and expanding these efforts, together.”

Currently, Southeastern Grocers plans on administering the vaccines for free directly in the front line at all of its in-store pharmacies, with plans to provide them at additional locations and at its drive-thru clinics in the coming months as more doses become available, the company said.
