Walgreens Boots Alliance announced that a new individual has joined its board of directors.
Steven J. Shulman, the board’s eleventh member, has been appointed director of the board, the Deerfield, Ill.-based company said.

“Steven is a tremendous addition to our board of directors. His vast leadership experience and in-depth knowledge across the healthcare spectrum will be invaluable as we move into our next phase of being a market leader at the center of community healthcare,” said Stefano Pessina, executive chairman at Walgreens Boots Alliance.
Shulman’s background includes experience in health care management, and he also currently serves on the boards at VillageMD and CareCentrix, two companies WBA has taken a majority interest in.

As the director, Shulman expects to bring not only valuable insights and a unique perspective, but also aid the company in accelerating its efforts to reimage the local health care industry, the company said.
