Walgreens names Patrick McLean chief marketing officer

Walgreens has appointed Patrick McLean senior vice president and chief marketing officer. He will oversee the vision, strategic direction and performance of all of the company’s marketing activities, including marketing collaboration, brand design and execution, customer targeting, brand positioning and marketing plan execution.

“It’s exciting to join Walgreens at this pivotal moment, when modern marketing can serve as an architect of end-to-end customer journeys and experiences,” McLean said. “I look forward to working with the highly talented team across the country, ensuring together that Walgreens is at the forefront of marketing in this critical area of the business.”

McLean joins Walgreens from his role as TD Bank’s executive vice president, CMO and head of corporate and public affairs. In that role, McLean turned the company’s marketing department into a data-driven and digital-first organization. He also previously served as vice president of digital brand strategy and digital CMO of Capital One Financial, as well as head of marketing and e-commerce at Verizon.

“At WBA, we are at the intersection of healthcare, beauty and retail, and therefore our content needs to be deeply personal and relevant,” said Vineet Mehra, SVP, Global Chief Marketing Officer, WBA. “Patrick McLean shares our vision to approach marketing through a personalized, customer-obsessed lens, and ensuring that we deliver extraordinary experiences that enrich our customers’ lives. We are thrilled to have him join our team and lead us through this next phase of our growth.”
