Walgreens rolls out mobile clinics, same-day appointments for COVID-19 vaccines

Walgreens is upping its efforts to make getting vaccinated against COVID-19 more accessible. The retailer is bringing multiple mobile vaccine clinics to Chicago in an effort to directly help underserved communities access the vaccines. 

Walgreens said that it would be expanding the mobile clinics to nine additional cities over the next two months. 

With the mobile clinics, patients are able to walk up and receive a vaccination with no appointment. The company is partnering with community organizations to let people know about the upcoming mobile clinic dates. 

“We understand the important role Walgreens has anmore than 15 d will continue to play in removing access barriers to the COVID-19 vaccine,” said John Standley, president, Walgreens. “Mobile clinics and the other models we use will allow us to bring vaccines to the heart of the most impacted communities, as well as addressing common barriers like transportation and convenience for those who want to get vaccinated.”

As it plans to bring more mobile clinics to other areas, Walgreens also is offering same-day vaccine appointments, as well as limited walk-in availability, at all of its retail locations nationwide, beginning May 5. 

The company noted that so far, it has administered more than 15 million COVID-19 vaccines and hosted more than 700 vaccine clinics in underserved communities.
