Walmart’s RDCs in Arizona, Arkansas go high-tech

Walmart recently announced plans to install high-tech automation in two of its regional distribution centers—one in Buckeye, Ariz, and another in Searcy, Ark. and now the retailer is sharing additional details.   

The new technology enables Walmart to double the number of cases processed per hour compared to a traditional RDC, while improving work for associates by evolving strenuous, manual jobs into those that offer new  skills in robotics and technology.   

The investment is part of Walmart’s broader initiative to renovate all of its 42 regional distribution centers as the retailer continues to modernize its vast supply chain network. By the end of 2025, roughly 65% of stores are expected to receive merchandise from high-tech distribution centers.

Both projects will be completed in phases over several years.

Buckeye, Ariz.   
The Buckeye RDC has been serving Walmart customers for nearly 25 years. Across the state of Arizona, Walmart operates three distribution centers, 124 retail stores and employs over 37,600 associates. In FY24, stores, clubs and the Walmart Foundation gave $38 million in cash and in-kind donations to local Arizona organizations.   

Searcy, Ark.   
The Searcy RDC has been serving Walmart customers for nearly 35 years. Across the state of Arkansas, Walmart operates eight distribution centers, 131 retail stores and employs 55,660 associates. In FY24, stores, clubs and the Walmart Foundation gave $58.4 million in cash and in-kind donations to local Arkansas organizations.
