Bausch + Lomb intros Alaway Preservative Free antihistamine eye drops

Bausch + Lomb is adding a preservative-free formulation to its Alaway brand of antihistamine eye drops. Alaway Preservative Free marks the first and only preservative-free antihistamine eye itch relief drop that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and it is rolling out just in time for allergy season.

“As we head into spring, millions of Americans with allergies will experience itchy eyes, one of the eye symptoms that affects approximately 80 percent of people with allergies,” said Joe Gordon, U.S. president, Bausch + Lomb. "With the availability of Alaway Preservative Free antihistamine eye drops, consumers now have a new over-the-counter option that provides fast, lasting eye itch relief without the use of preservatives."

Alaway Preservative Free offers a prescription-strength formula meant to block the release of histamines, which cause puffiness and itchiness as a result of being exposed to allergens in the air. The company said that Alaway offers quick relief that can last as long as 12 hours with one dose.

The product is set to launch at such national retailers as CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens and Walmart, as well as on Amazon.com. Alaway Preservative Free eye drops are sold in a 10-dose supply with 20 single-dose vials, which comes with a suggested retail price of $14.99.
