L’Oreal employees give their time to help beautify playground

8/27/2008

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. About 100 employees from the Piscataway, N.J., L’Oreal plant spent time outside of work Tuesday. But the group activity was not a vacation day or company picnic—they were volunteering to clean up a playground that was riddled with garbage and weeds.

The cleanup took place at Naomi’s Way, a home for children and their families. The volunteers helped add a slide and benches and tables to the play area. The beautification project cost about $5,000, representatives said.

In addition to cleaning up the play area at Naomi’s Way, the volunteers also organized a carnival-like event at the Sacred Heart School parking lot on Commercial Ave., where they read to and did crafts with children, gave away school supplies and provided 150 bags containing toiletries, pillows and towels to domestic violence victims, and made dolls for youth patients at St. Peter’s University Hospital.

A representative from L’Oreal’s human resources department said that this volunteer project was the first of its kind for the company—and the first time many of L’Oreal’s employees had ever volunteered.
