Beer, wine to return to Walgreens' shelves

6/3/2010

DEERFIELD, Ill. Walgreens is changing its Prohibition stance.

Reversing its 15-year alcohol sales ban, the nation's largest drug store chain soon will be offering beer and wine at its stores, according to published reports.

Walgreens spokesman Robert Elfinger told The Wall Street Journal that Walgreens has reintroduced a limited selection in about 3,100 of its stores. The chain, however, does not have plans to sell hard liquor or 40-oz. beers.
