Harris Teeter unveils new specialty grocer concept

10/18/2012

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Harris Teeter on Wednesday celebrated the official grand openings of its 201central stores during ribbon-cutting ceremonies at both locations — Wesley Chapel and Huntersville, N.C.

The new concept stores feature an extensive variety of wine, beer, specialty foods and other general merchandise items. Services unique to the locations include event coordination and party rentals, as well as educational classes focused on wine, beer and food pairings. Accordingly, the store will carry more than 3,100 varieties of wine and more than 680 varieties of beer from around the world, including approximately 35 brands of keg beer and local beers such as Red Oak, Olde Mecklenburg and Carolina Brewing. In addition, these stores will carry home brewing and wine-making systems and products.

201central also features a wide range of cigars; specialty cheese and olives; artisan breads; bulk foods, including coffee, tea, nuts, grains and rice; and other specialty and common favorites of beverages and snack items, including Gluten Free items. Harris Teeter is also planning for expanded international foods including Asian, Middle Eastern, English, Indian, Italian, Kosher, Mexican and South American products alongside such local and regional products as barbecue sauce, dips and salad dressings from North Carolina and bordering state producers.

Meeting the demanding needs for convenience, 201central will also provide customers with the ability to explore a wide variety of wines utilizing the WineStation. This try-before-you buy, temperature-controlled technology will enable guests to enjoy featured wines by the taste, half- and full glass.

Harris Teeter's loyalty program, the Very Important Customer card, will be valid at 201central, and these new stores will also honor the advertised items or promotions that are active within the Harris Teeter chain.
