Hostess brings Molten Lava Ding Dongs to freezer aisle


KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As part of its efforts to move beyond the snack aisle, Hostess Brands has introduced a new addition to the freezer section with Molten Lava Ding Dongs. The launch follows the company’s first foray into the freezer aisle last summer with Deep-Fried Twinkies and a line of ice cream flavors inspired by classic Hostess treats.

“The introduction of Molten Lava Ding Dongs, which comes on the heels of last year’s launch of Deep-Fried Twinkies, demonstrates Hostess’ commitment to expanding its presence in the frozen food category,” Hostess Brands SVP and chief marketing officer Burke Raine said. “With this new product, Hostess continues to push the envelope of innovation, bringing consumers restaurant-ready versions of their favorite snack cakes which can be enjoyed at home in seconds.”

The Molten Lava Ding Dongs can be prepared in the microwave in 20 seconds, and feature a 30% larger cake with 60% more crème filling and 20% more chocolate coating than original Ding Dongs, the company said.
