Lay's brings back popular 'Flavor' contest

1/20/2015

PLANO, Texas — Lay's brand on Tuesday announced the return of its popular "Do Us A Flavor" contest. Beginning today, fans can submit their ideas for the next potato chip flavor for a chance at nabbing a $1 million prize. But with the return of the contest comes a twist: Lay's is requesting that fans include the location that inspired each of their (potential) money-making flavors.

"With two U.S. 'Do Us A Flavor' contests complete, millions of consumers from just about every corner of the country have weighed in on the next great potato chip flavor," said Jeff Klein, VP marketing, Frito-Lay. "Time and again, these fans have told us they've drawn inspiration from their favorite locations all around the U.S. – from the cities where they live to their favorite vacation spots to the places they've traveled to see friends and family. So this year, we decided to take America's love of diverse flavors to a whole new level and let it inspire our next contest winner."

Beginning today through March 30, fans can go to DoUsAFlavor.com to submit their flavor ideas. They may also submit via Twitter (follow @Lays for details), through the brand's Facebook page and by using their cell phoen to text FLAVOR to CHIPS (24477). Fans will be asked to provide their name, flavor name, up to three ingredients, the style of chip, the city and state that inspired the flavor and a short description or inspiration story for their flavor, the company stated.

Fan votes will determine the winning flavor, which will be revealed in the fall. Lay's Kettle Cooked Wasabi Ginger took the top honors for 2014 and returns to stores this month complete with official "winner" packaging.
